Guru Dakshina
The
yogic tradition of giving donation
Even
in not so ancient times, the passing of yogic knowledge from teacher to
student was a reverential affair. The guru watched over their students
with paternal love, while the student venerated their guru,
ever-grateful for the immeasurable gifts of greater understanding that
they were being given.
The student, according to his or her own means, paid what
ever they could afford. This donation was referred to as Guru
Dakshina, which means “giving out of respect” - a “love
offering” of
utmost appreciation from the student to their teacher. ...

Yoga Props:
Are
they a help, or a hindrance?
I’ve
heard many pros and cons from both sides of the yoga prop debate. Since
most every yoga teacher has been trained in a yoga approach that either
uses
them, or doesn’t, naturally there is bias all around.
Rarely do I encounter those who has have significantly broad enough
yoga training and experience to be able to make a balanced assessment
of the topic.
Recently, though, I received this email from a yoga teacher in
Australia who does, and here she relates her experiences from both
