Standing Jattis
The warm up stretches in yoga are called jattis. In an earlier lesson
we learned several
warm
up exercises in the seated position. This video demonstrates
some basic yoga warm up practices in the standing position.
Jattis are an important part of any
hatha yoga
practice. The greater tension and stiffness in the body, the greater
the need to focus on these simple movements in order to
loosen the body to be able move safely and effectively into
asanas
and through other physical practices..
But the jattis not limited to simply ‘warming up’
the body. These practices are important for helping to release
psychic and mental tension, cleanse out ‘psychic toxins’, promote
circulation,
stimulate nerves, and release tension on many levels, and are
beneficial for all levels of practitioners of yoga.
